Bringing Back the Beauty of Your Old Bathroom Tile Floor

If you have an old bathroom, you're probably aware of how challenging it can be to maintain the beauty of its tile floor. A lot of factors, like daily use and humidity, can speed up deterioration in the grout lines and tiles. And if restoration is not an option due to financial or rental constraints, it can be frustrating to deal with it.

The good news is, there are practical solutions to clean the grout efficiently. With some elbow grease and time, using readily available household items such as baking soda, white vinegar, and hydrogen peroxide, it is possible to restore a 100-year-old bathroom tile floor to its former glory.

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

Before you start, make sure you have everything you need. Here are some of the things you'll need:

  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Bucket
  • Old toothbrush or grout brush
  • Microfiber cloths

Step 2: Mix the Cleaning Solution

Mix a paste of baking soda and water. Use about three parts baking soda to one part water. Stir it until you get a thick, spreadable consistency. Apply the paste to the grout lines and tiles, making sure to cover them well. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes.

Step 3: Scrub the Grout Lines

Using an old toothbrush or a grout brush, scrub the grout lines carefully. Work in a circular motion to loosen the dirt and grime that has accumulated over time. Rinse the brush often and apply more paste if needed. If the grout lines are exceptionally stained, dip the brush in white vinegar before scrubbing.

Step 4: Rinse with Water

Once you have thoroughly scrubbed the grout lines, use a microfiber cloth to wipe away the baking soda paste. Rinse the floor with warm water, making sure to remove all the residue of the paste. The grout lines should now look much cleaner than before.
