The 6th Annual Sustainable Style Awards Celebrate Green Innovation

During this year's event, hosted by Maison De Mode co-founders Hassan Pierre and Amanda Hearst, two leaders in the green movement were recognized for their contributions to a more sustainable fashion industry: Leona Lewis and Cyrill Gutsch.

Leona Lewis: A Voice for Animals and the Environment

The British singer-songwriter Leona Lewis has long been an advocate for animal rights and environmental causes. In 2018, she launched a vegan fashion line in collaboration with Leona Lewis for The Body Shop. Her brand, inspired by her love of animals and desire for positive change, features designs made from vegan materials and eco-friendly fabrics.

At the event, The Body Shop's director of campaigns said, "She has not only been changing hearts and minds through her music but also through her dedication to the planet and the animals we share it with."

Cyrill Gutsch: Rethinking Plastic and Fighting Ocean Pollution

Cyrill Gutsch, a German activist and founder of Parley for the Oceans, was also honored at the Sustainable Style Awards for his innovative work in tackling ocean pollution. His organization, which partners with companies and organizations to support ocean conservation, has developed solutions for waste reduction and created new materials made from recycled plastics.

In his acceptance speech, Gutsch encouraged companies and designers to think differently about their use of plastic. "Every second breath we take is thanks to the oceans, so why are we using them as trash cans?" he asked the crowd.
